Get that glow this 2024

Of course I enjoy putting on a bit of makeup and getting my glam on as much as the next person, but getting that radiance without using make-up can often feel just as good—especially in the summer when extra makeup can tend to melt away in high temperatures. After all, nothing says summer like that glowing, dewy skin where we truly light up from the inside without anything extra—just us, looking fresh-faced and beautiful. The warmer months can be a wonderful time to cut back on make-up, add more sunscreen, and let our natural sun-kissed goodness shine.

Here are a few simple tips to put your best face forward

Exfoliate! Chemical exfoliation can be as gentle as some citrus juice and honey, apple cider vinegar, or something a bit more active like a lactic acid peel. If getting to your skin goals needs a little more heavy lifting, you can talk to your local spa or esthetician and inquire about your options for professional treatments—they are all very different and there’s something for all skin types and goals. Regardless of the route you go, you will free your shine when you can exfoliate in an effective and safe way. Chemical peels, intense or mild, can improve skin texture, skin tone, and help you absorb your products more effectively without a barrier of dead skin blocking all the goodies from getting in. Starting from the ground up, exfoliation ensures the best possible starting point for your pared back summer look.

Speaking of serums and oils. There are so many online, box retailers, and smaller local shops that carry amazing oil blends and serums that are chock full of delicious skin gems. Citrus, Calendula Extract, Vitamin C., Sunflower oil, Shea Butter, Olive Oil, and Argan are just a few consistent treasures that boost brightness, even appearance, hydrate, and support healthy cell turnover and growth.

Calendula: Anti-inflammatory properties soothe irritated skin and reduces redness.

Citrus & Vitamin C: Support collagen and elastin growth, encourage visible smoothness, and fade dark spots.

Shea Butter: High in fatty acids, shea butter soothes and softens skin.

Olive oil- rich in antioxidants and can assist in reducing sun damage, and inflammation.

Argan oil- Natural oil-balancing benefits, calms irritated skin, and it’s lightweight. Argan is also rich in fatty acids that can minimize pores and encourage elasticity.

Glowing outside requires nurturing the inside, too. Some of the biggies for me are rest, managing stress, and good water intake, eating watery fruits and veggies has some amazing benefits beyond just being all around powerhouses of minerals, vitamins, and enzymes—they’re also excellent at hydrating you, especially if you have a hard time drinking water throughout the day. As far as good ‘ol H20 goes, 11-15 cups of water a day (depending on size of your body) is a noble goal. Getting enough water reduces premature aging, flushes wastes, reduces puffiness, and can help skin be firmer and more radiant.

For a simple skincare regimen to supports your inner light I recommend: Cleanse, exfoliate, tone, apply serum, seal it all in with an oil or hydrating lotion, then top it all off with your favorite sunscreen. To finish, dab a small bit of oil/serum/balm on your ring finger and gently pat around the eyes and cheeks for that bright dewy glow on areas where the light naturally falls on your face. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll add a little powder to my eyebrows and lashes, or just rock my naturally glowing fresh face!
